History

“When I grow up I want to build websites!”

It all started when I moved to Leeds from a quiet Yorkshire market town to study Computing at university.

It's hard to believe that was way back in the year 2000. Knowing very little about computers and even less about websites it was, in hindsight, a bit of a gamble. However, as part of my course I was placed to work at a really exciting company where I developed a thirst for web design and development that still hasn't been quenched to this day.

After graduating I worked for a handful of companies and began doing a little moonlighting on the side. That eventually turned into full-time freelancing and in 2006 I formed Texelate and haven't looked back since.

Texelate is a word I created based on the term “texel” — a unit of textured space in digital imagery. So the word Texelate is intended to be a verb meaning “someone who creates textured images” — in my case websites.

“I've been hugely impressed with your technical input, patience and professionalism throughout the process of designing the site.”

Experience and Skills

  Technical terms Layman's terms
Design Wire framing and vector mock ups, image editing Web design for mobiles, tablets and desktops
Front end development HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery Sites (and HTML newsletters) that use the latest web technologies built to the highest standards
Back end development OO-based PHP, relational MySQL Database-driven websites with advanced levels of interactivity; I can learn most web software very quickly
Server management Apache, cPanel, WHM Servers streamlined to make your site perform better

Although design and development are my stock-in-trade I also have an excellent understanding of search engine optimisation (SEO) having dominated Google for years for my main search terms. I am also a keen blogger and — as well as enjoying high traffic on my own blog — I have written guest blogs for a number of prolific websites.
